A PROPOSAL FOR A DOCUMENTARY- Be the change that you want to see.
                                                 PRESENTED BY ALPINA MUHATI 09-0848
INTRODUCTION
Since multi-party politics began in Kenya, elections have been ethnically divisive and violent. Hundreds died in 1992 and again in 1997 before 2007 exploded. Violence has long been a feature of political life but what happened in 2007, went way beyond anything Kenyans had seen before. If nothing is done, we can predict that next time will make 2007 look like chicken feed.
After the 2007 post election violence, what next? Many initiatives were embarked on, one such initiative is The Brand Kenya Board, a state cooperation that was charged with the responsibility of identifying and refining the key elements in Kenya, that contribute positively to the image and reputation of the Nation. Their main goal is to enhance these elements and create an authentic, credible brand for the country that establishes our uniqueness in the global arena. One of their major functions is to unite Kenyans and provide them with positive information about the country in order to promote patriotism and national pride.

From 2007, there has been a build-up of activities as Kenyans near the elections .To avoid going back to where we have come from as a country, this documentary proposes to discuss some of these activities including the wall painting incidents, zebra crossing paintings that are being done by a group of youths, the issue of e-mail surveillance ,the ICC 4  and the exact election date .We will also discuss what Brand Kenya has done so far, to ensure that we don’t go back from where we came from in 2007.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
There are many questions regarding the safety of Kenyans .Different people have different opinions regarding different political issues. Another concern is that people are interpreting different events and activities as individuals, so they end up having a different meaning.
OBJECTIVES
From the discussions, I hope to achieve the following goals:
1)      My main objective is to show my audience that Kenya as a county is bigger than a county, bigger than a tribe and much bigger than any individual.
2)      To encourage the youth to be the change they want to see.
3)      Get the different perspectives that the youths hold about the topic.
PLAN OF ACTION
This section presents my plan for obtaining the objectives discussed in the previous section. For the first objective, I plan to interview at least two board members from Brand Kenya; their perspective will help me achieve my objective.
For the second goal, I will collect different opinions (sound bites) from different University Students, including students from Daystar Valley road campus and Athi River campus. The reason behind this is because the youth make up the better part of the Kenyan population, and so the decisions we are making now will affect the generations to come. Another reason is also because my target audiences are listeners of Shine 103.1 FM, most of them being youths.
From the interviews and the sound bites, I will be able to get the different perspectives that we the youth hold regarding the political situation at hand.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the documentary be the change that you want to see seeks to entice the audiences of Shine 103.1 to be the change that they want to see in Kenya. The change starts with a change of attitude, which is what Brand Kenya has been working on, and change of attitude starts with an individual. If we don’t take that step now to define the good we want for our county, we are the same individuals who will suffer years to come.
As Sophia Loren says, there is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.
