critique radio shows

CRITIQUE 1

I am Paul Nyakundi student of 361 and doing a critique on a radio show. The show that I am doing a critique on is the rush hour which is on kiss 100fm. It is between five and seven during weekdays.

This show is hosted by two presenters and they are Shaffie Weru and Kaleche Mumo, This show is during the time many listeners are on their way had home and are probably held in traffic and is for their entertainment.

Before the show begins officially there is normally a news bulletin at five in the evening.This is normally gives a short preview of the main story. Like in this one had a story on the incident that occurred at Nyayo stadium when there was a big derby match and seven people died due to a stampede at the entrance and a committee is being formed to investigate the matter.

The studio jingle then comes in after the news bulletin some music is played shortly before the presenters come in and introduce the show. They begin with the program line up, there is a competition where listeners get to call in and if they are chosen they are given a key if it opens the car(Toyota vitz) they win it.

stampede and also another interviewing the government officials on the incident and what appropriate action will they take.

CRITQUE 2

This critique also had some similar characteristics as compared to the first one. This one also began with a news bulletin about the mayor of Nairobi who is Godfrey Majiwa who was arrested by Kenya Anti corruption agents for stealing about 283 million shillings suspected to be state funds.His case was now being heard in court and the court demanded 2.5 million for cash

Ruto who was attacked by many of his collegues for some corruption charges was also in the bulletin and was suspended from office and his case is now pending in court.

These two stories in the news bulletin had some voice report from the scene and some interviewing was also done. The reporters of kiss 100fm were already at the scene reporting from the scene and interviewing the people involved in stories brought.

During this show rush hour there is also insertion of music in the show in between the program line up. Normally the first song in the show is played after the studio jingle comes which is immediately after the news bulletin. Adverts also was inserted in the show and they take huge percentage of it. There was also a teaser in the show when the presenter shaffie weru announced in five minutes the second news bulletin will come.

This show has shown the use of the news bulletin and the past critiques are proof of it. The purpose of it is to give us a quick story which has just happened recently. This type of news is very short and brief and thus creates that sense of urgency. It is normally done like this inorder to be able to grasp the attention of the speaker
